On our recent visit to the site, the farm was vacant of other humans. The wet air had settled on the grass cooling the breeze as the smell of the nearly full compost trailer encompassed the farm. Just as the atmosphere of the farm was widening, the atmosphere of the house was closing in, starting with the grass.
Having gone to seed, the grass that now covers the un-farmed land at Urbavore Farms silhouettes the openings. A natural frame circles the view in and out; the way in and out for the sun.
The act of construction is being helped by the land - taking many years. The earth has accepted the house and it has settled well into the belly of the hill. The mixture of top soil and vermiculite on the roof is ready for planting. Afterwards the exterior walls will be completed, as will plumbing and electrical rough-in. We anticipate the house will be occupied by winter.
