Jumping off a cliff...

Within the vibrant Westside Neighborhood near downtown Kansas City, MO, sits a steep sloped, narrow, over-grown site. Appropriating the topography of the city informs drives the design. A house for a family of four, we call this project the Madhouse. Beyond merely the name of the street address, passers-by seem to comment on the madness of putting a house on the side of an urban cliff. The house oscillates from submersion and immersion: sunken beneath the ground on the North-East corner, the site quickly drops nearly 40 feet letting the house project over the site 20 feet in the air at the south.
