[Feb 16, 2015] Teismann Adjunct Faculty at RISD
Matthew Teismann has accepted an adjunct position as Lecturer in the Department of Architecture at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Along with Ijlal Muzaffar, Teismann will co-teach a history of Modern Architecture Seminar during the Spring 2015 semester, which is a course for undergrad and graduate students intended to introduce students to different causes to the tremendous social, cultural, political, economic, and industrial transformations giving rise to capitalist modes of production across the globe:
Modern architecture is not only a response to the conditions of the time, but brings into being - the place and hence time - the conditions themselves. We will ask questions like, 'does architecture exist within the context of its time, or can it instantiate in some way, ontologically speaking, the context itself? In other words, can architecture create place and time?
